Distinguished colleagues, researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers,

It is with great pride and a deep sense of responsibility that I welcome you to the Moroccan Society of Artificial Intelligence (SMIA). This is not a routine formality. It is a statement of intent and a call to action for everyone who believes that Morocco's defining moment in technology has arrived.

Artificial Intelligence is no longer a sci-fi concept confined to heavily funded laboratories. It has become the operating system of the modern world, reshaping every major sector it touches.

The nations that invest and build today will set the global standards for tomorrow. Those who hesitate will simply navigate a world they had no part in designing. SMIA was built to ensure Morocco is among the architects, not the spectators.

Let's look at the facts: Morocco possesses a highly dynamic, digitally native youth, an academic community of true international caliber, and a geostrategic position that makes it the natural bridge between Africa, Europe, and the Arab world. The capacity has always been here. What was missing was national coordination and collective ambition. SMIA fills that gap.

SMIA is not a networking club or a standard professional guild. It is the core infrastructure for the future of Moroccan AI.

Produce Knowledge: Support original scientific research and open-source contributions.

Build Global Bridges: Foster international collaborations with leading research centers.

Shape Policy: Work with policymakers to build a sovereign, context-aware AI governance framework.

Responsible AI is not a buzzword or a box to check for international audiences; it is our baseline. Having witnessed the consequences of unchecked AI—from algorithmic bias to privacy erosion—Morocco can offer a better model. We are rooted in a culture that values human dignity. Our AI must remain human-centered, transparent, and trustworthy.

We do not measure success by the number of events we host. We measure it by how Morocco's position in the global AI landscape transforms over the next decade. We aim to establish Morocco as the premier hub for AI research and innovation in Africa and the Arab world.
